Porn websites are soon to be banned in Kyrgyzstan. The country’s parliament has passed a corresponding law in the second and third readings, as reported by 24.kg.

The document introduces a ban on spreading content featuring pornographic elements on the internet.

According to the law, website owners must delete such content within 24 hours after receiving a request from a competent authority. If ignored, access to the website may be restricted for up to two months. During this period, the creation of new websites or pages featuring similar content is also prohibited.

If the law is enacted, the cabinet will develop a special registry of banned websites, with access to them being entirely restricted within the territory of Kyrgyzstan.

When the law passed the first reading, Kyrgyz Deputy Minister of Culture Marat Tagaev stated that the previous law applies solely to websites and TV channels registered in Kyrgyzstan, while the new one aims to combat those registered overseas. He added that operators are able to ban such websites, but preventing access via VPN remains a challenge.

In late May, the Kyrgyz parliament passed a language law in the first reading that would require candidates for public office and civil service jobs to demonstrate proficiency in Kyrgyz, sparking heated debate over interethnic relations and civil rights.

In 2023, a Kyrgyz MP proposed introducing a ban on wearing burqas, following Uzbekistan’s example. Throughout 2024, Kyrgyz MPs and activists held discussions on whether individuals wearing face-concealing garments should be fined. This led to the adoption of a corresponding law in January 2025, followed by a series of enforcement raids to ensure compliance.
