Over the first 10 months of the 2024-2025 marketing year — from September to June — Kazakhstan’s wheat exports in grain equivalent rose 44% year-on-year to 10 million tons, according to Eugeniy Karabanov, official representative of the Kazakh Grain Union.

Considering the high export pace and potential in the next two months, the union has raised its forecast for wheat, wheat flour and feed meal exports in grain equivalent from 11.45 million to 11.6 million tons. Reaching this figure would mark an all-time record.

According to Karabanov, the countries that increased their imports compared to the same period in the last marketing year are:

  • Tajikistan: up 22%, driven by increased wheat imports;
  • Uzbekistan: up 31%, driven by increased wheat imports;
  • China: up 1.7-fold, driven by increased feed meal imports;
  • Kyrgyzstan: up 3.9-fold, driven by increased imports of wheat and wheat flour.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan reduced their imports by 2.8% and 17.5%, respectively. Kabul purchased less wheat flour, while Ashgabat cut wheat imports but increased flour imports by more than 2.2 times.

«Due to increased wheat imports from Russia, the forecast for carryover stocks of last year’s wheat harvest at the end of the current season has been slightly downgraded to 1.94 million tons, which is a perfectly comfortable level for Kazakhstan’s market,» Karabanov stated.

Overall, Kazakhstan has slightly reduced wheat flour exports but increased those of wheat and feed meal.
