
A 45-year-old Belgian man broke his leg while hiking at Molodezhny Pass and was unable to continue his climb or descend back to the city. His wife called Kazakhstan’s emergency hotline (112) for help.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan, professional rescuers from the Tuyuk-Su and Muztau checkpoints immediately responded.
It took them about three hours to reach the injured man. After providing first aid, they carefully carried him down the mountain along a trail, a process that lasted another five hours.
Once they reached the Medeo Dam, rescuers handed the tourist over to doctors from the Center for Disaster Medicine under the Ministry of Emergency Situations. He was then transported to a hospital in Almaty for further treatment. Authorities urge tourists to plan their routes in advance, avoid hiking alone, bring warm clothing and a first-aid kit, and call 112 right away in case of an emergency.
On May 31, a team of rescuers under Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations successfully evacuated three men who found themselves in trouble on Mount Shymbulak in the Talgar district of the Almaty region. At an altitude of 3,450 meters, the young men aged 24 to 25 reported being unable to continue their descent on their own after experiencing physical exhaustion and cramps. They promptly called 112 — the rescue service number — and reported their location.
