A new trailer has been released for «The Truce,» the first Kazakh-Spanish drama produced for Netflix. The film features actors from the Spanish hit series «Elite» as well as «Money Heist.»
The story is inspired by true events. During Stalin’s political purges, hundreds of Spanish prisoners were held alongside Kazakhs in the Karaganda Corrective Labor Camp (Karlag), one of the largest camps in the Soviet Gulag system. According to the filmmakers, the project was sparked by recently declassified archives that shed new light on this history.
In 2013, Kazakhstan transferred 152 archival files on Spanish prisoners to then–Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy of Spain. The records helped many families recover missing chapters of their past.
The cast includes «Elite» stars Arón Piper and Miguel Herrán, the latter also known for his role in Netflix’s global hit «Money Heist.» Director Miguel Ángel Vivas said the film is not focused on politics or the prison system itself, but rather on universal themes of humanity, compassion and love — elements he believes will resonate with audiences worldwide.
“The Truce” will premiere Sept. 25 at the San Sebastián International Film Festival. The film is scheduled for release in Spain and Kazakhstan on Oct. 15 before arriving on Netflix.
