Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old suspect in the assassination of right-wing conservative activist Charlie Kirk on Sept. 11, is currently in custody and scheduled to be formally charged on Sept. 16, Reuters reported, citing Utah Governor Spencer Cox.
According to Cox, Robinson has refused to cooperate with the investigation and has not confessed, while people close to him — including his roommate and family — have been cooperative. Therefore, authorities are turning to his friends and relatives in an attempt to determine his motives for the shooting.
The affidavit stated that several inscriptions were engraved into four bullet casings, referencing memes and video game-style symbols.
On Sept. 14, Cox told NBC’s «Meet the Press» that Robinson was raised in a religious family in a conservative region of the state but held very different views. The governor noted that relatives and a family friend alerted authorities that Robinson had implicated himself. According to the arrest warrant affidavit, one of the relatives said Robinson developed a greater interest in politics in recent years and discussed Kirk’s views with another family member.
Turning Point USA, Kirk’s organization, announced a memorial event in his honor on Sept. 21 in Glendale, Arizona.
