Kazakhstan makes history, topping medal table at World Boxing Championships 2025

Kazakhstan dominated the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, finishing at the top of the unofficial medal table as the event concluded Sunday.

Medal haul

Kazakh fighters claimed seven golds, one silver and two bronzes. World titles were awarded to Sanzhar Tashkenbay, Makhmud Sabyrkhan, Torekhan Sabyrkhan, Aibek Oralbay, Alua Balkibekova, Aida Abikeyeva and Natalya Bogdanova.

Uzbekistan finished second in the unofficial standings with six golds, two silvers and three bronzes, while India placed third with two golds, one silver and one bronze.

  2. Uzbekistan: 6 gold, 2 silver, 3 bronze
  3. India: 2 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze
  4. Brazil: 1 gold, 3 silver
  5. Poland: 1 gold, 2 silver

The 2025 championships took place from Sept. 4 to 14 in Liverpool, England, drawing more than 500 boxers from 66 countries. Twenty sets of medals were awarded — 10 for men and 10 for women. Kazakhstan entered the tournament with a full squad of 20 athletes.

This year marked the first senior world championships organized by World Boxing, a federation established in 2023 to maintain boxing’s Olympic status after the International Olympic Committee formally derecognized the International Boxing Association in 2024 following a series of scandals. World Boxing formed as an alternative to the association led by Russia’s Umar Kremlev.
