Meta, the company behind Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and the Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses, has potentially leaked one of its biggest product announcements ahead of the Meta Connect presentation scheduled for Sept. 17–18 — a new Ray-Ban smart glasses model featuring a display and a wristband controller, The Verge reported, citing UploadVR.
Meta had uploaded an unlisted video on YouTube — since removed — showcasing the product, along with new wraparound Oakley Sphaera smart glasses featuring a camera mounted on the nose bridge. According to descriptions of the deleted clip, the Ray-Ban device integrated the display into the right lens and demonstrated functions such as querying Meta AI, viewing maps through the glasses, translating signs and replying to chats using the wristband.
Earlier this September, Singaporean police ordered Meta to strengthen its response to impersonation scams, warning the company it could face a fine of more than $700,000.
Another Meta-related case occurred in September, when a whistleblower, describing himself as a former head of security for WhatsApp, filed a lawsuit against the company, accusing it of overlooking internal vulnerabilities in data protection and potentially compromising the data of billions of users.
