As India celebrates Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday today, curiosity grows about his wealth and background.
Born on Sept. 17, 1950, in Vadnagar in the western Indian state of Gujarat, Modi rose from humble beginnings to become India’s prime minister for three consecutive terms. His journey is often portrayed as one of determination, discipline and strong ambition.
In the Indian political system, the prime minister leads the government. To serve, one must be appointed by the president and be a member of either house of Parliament.
Modi’s monthly salary is ₹1.66 lakh, equivalent to approximately $ 2,000. That sum includes a base pay of approximately $570, a parliamentary allowance of $510, an expense allowance of $34 and a daily allowance of $23, as reported by Outlook Business.
According to his latest election affidavit in 2024, the prime minister holds declared personal assets worth just over ₹3 crore (nearly $340,000). This amount primarily reflects financial holdings, such as a fixed deposit at the State Bank of India.
His sole jewelry consists of four plain gold rings, collectively valued at just under $3,400.
Unlike many politicians, Modi reportedly owns no land, residences, vehicles or commercial property — a fact that has remained consistent during his two decades in high office.
