At the recent Meta Connect Keynote event that took place on Sept. 17 new Meta Ray-Ban Display artificial intelligence glasses were announced, following the leak happening shortly before the official event, along with Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 glasses and sport-tailored Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses, UploadVR reported.
Ray-Ban Display Glasses
The model features a small heads-up display in the right lens, with Meta claiming very low light leakage (around 2%), meaning that people nearby essentially won’t be able to see what’s shown. The device comes with the control wristband branded as Meta Neural Band, which operates under surface electromyography technology that senses the activation of muscles in the wrist driving finger movements. This allows for accurate tracking without requiring the camera’s view to be visible to perform commands, such as responding to calls. The display supports Meta AI with visuals, messaging and video calling, preview and zoom, pedestrian navigation, live captions and translation, and music playback. Coming in two colors — black and sand — the glasses start at $799 and are currently available only in physical stores in the U.S., where demonstrations are also available.
Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses
The design of this model had leaked shortly before the event, and it is now officially announced. The wraparound smart glasses feature a wide-FOV centered camera of 122 degrees and IP67 water resistance. The video recording modes are 3K at 30 frames per second (FPS) for up to 3 minutes, 1080p at 60FPS for up to 3 minutes, 1080p at 30FPS for up to 5 minutes, and slow-motion 720p at 120FPS. The Meta website also claims that the device stands out with high-quality audio suitable for windy conditions up to 30 miles per hour. Other than their shape, enhanced audio, and other upgrades compared to the first generation of Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta HSTN, they function similarly, including querying Meta AI or making and receiving calls. Coming in four variations with different lenses, the device starts at $499, with pre-orders available in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Australia, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland and the Netherlands, with shipment starting on Oct. 21.
Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2
Upgraded Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 can record 3K video and has up to eight hours of battery in typical use, compared to 1080p and around four hours for the first generation Ray-Ban Meta glasses. The camera in the device can record at 1200p at 60FPS, 1440p at 30FPS and 3K at 30FPS with a duration of up to three minutes. Otherwise, they share similar functions as their older counterpart. The product starts at $379 and is available now.
