Conor McGregor, a former champion in two UFC weight classes, stated that he had reached an agreement with the promotion to host a fight at the White House.
«Done deal, signed, delivered. McGregor will compete in the White House for America’s 250th birthday,» McGregor told Fox News.
In July, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a UFC tournament to be held on the grounds of the White House. The event, inspired by Trump’s idea, is scheduled for July 4, 2026, to mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
McGregor almost immediately announced his return to the sport for this historic event. However, UFC president Dana White emphasized that discussions about specific participants in the planned tournament would begin next year.
The UFC has not officially confirmed McGregor’s statement. Nevertheless, the Irish mixed martial artist is determined to enter the Octagon on the grounds of the White House. If the tournament goes ahead, McGregor’s likely opponent will be American fighter Michael Chandler. According to him, preparation for the fight would take six months.
«I consider it a six-month operation to get ready for this bout. That’s my focus right now…There’s a lot at stake, and I’m very excited at the opportunity,» MMA Fighting cited McGregor as saying.
