
Toyota remained the world’s top-selling car brand from January through August 2025, marking its 10th consecutive year as global market leader, according to Focus2Move, which compiled sales data from 159 countries.

The Japanese automaker’s sales increased by 3.2%, resulting in a 10.8% share of the global market. Volkswagen ranked second with a 5.6% share and a 1.3% increase in sales. Ford came in third, capturing 4.3% of the market despite a 4.6% drop in sales.
Hyundai, the South Korean automaker, followed closely behind. As its sales rose 1% year-on-year, the company moved up from fifth to fourth place in the rankings, securing 4.3% of global sales.
Hondaslipped in the standings, as sales fell 6%. As a result, the Japanese brand dropped from fourth to fifth place, with a 4% share.

China’s BYD rounded out the top five, and its sales jumped 5.4%, lifting the brand from seventh to sixth place. Meanwhile, Kia advanced two positions to seventh, moving from ninth, with a 5.2% sales gain.
Nissan continued to struggle, landing in eighth after sales declined 4.3%. The brand dropped from sixth in the previous period. Chevrolet dropped one spot to ninth, down from eighth, following a 0.7% dip in sales.

Finally, Geely, another Chinese automaker, surged into the top 10 for the first time. The company posted a 75.1% increase in sales, climbing nine positions to claim 10th place globally.
