Toyota model lineup expects an addition, according to Autocar. An affordable two-seat electric city car with a price tag below $10,000 is anticipated to be assembled in the U.K. The vehicle’s specifications will hardly match those of a regular car, so a driver’s license would not be required in many countries to drive one.
The exact date for the production launch has not yet been announced. Production is expected to take place at Toyota’s facility in Burnaston, the same plant where the Toyota Corolla model is manufactured. Under a U.K. government funding program, £15 million (approximately $20.1 million) is expected to be invested to evaluate the feasibility of producing battery-electric vehicles.
«The funding allows us to advance our understanding around the feasibility of creating a cutting-edge battery-electric vehicle that addresses the growing demand for sustainable urban mobility,» Autocar cited Dariusz Mikolajczak, managing director of Toyota Motor Manufacturing U.K., as saying.

The base for Toyota’s new affordable electric car will probably be the FT-Me Concept shown in March 2025. The rivals of the vehicle will be the Citroën Ami, FIAT Topolino and Renault Mobilize Duo, all costing less than $10,000. In several European nations, they are allowed to be driven without a license.
The concept model is 2.5 meters long, carries a futuristic look and is built using recycled materials.
The future Toyota FT-Me — if the name is kept — will comply with the L6e quadricycle regulations, meaning its electric motor will have a maximum power output of eight brake horsepower, with a limited top speed of 45 kilometers per hour. The concept vehicle is also equipped with a mounted solar panel that is promised to add up to 20 to 30 kilometers to the expected base range of 100 kilometers.
Previously, Toyota was named the world’s top-selling brand from January to August 2025. Separately, in early September, the company unveiled its plans to produce an all-electric vehicle at its facility in Czechia.
