Elon Musk launches AI-powered Wikipedia rival

Elon Musk announced the launch of Grokipedia — an AI-powered online encyclopedia created in opposition to Wikipedia — on Oct. 27, 2025, NBC News reported.

«Grokipedia.com version 0.1 is now live. Version 1.0 will be 10x better, but even at 0.1 it’s better than Wikipedia imo,» Musk wrote on X.

The entrepreneur announced the development of Grokipedia in September, noting that it «will be a massive improvement over Wikipedia.» According to media reports, Musk has characterized Wikipedia in political terms and voiced criticism of the project.

As of now, the AI-powered rival to Wikipedia claims it features 885,279 articles. Notably, media reports indicate that several articles on Grokipedia mention they are based on Wikipedia.

A key difference in operation is that Grokipedia relies on the Grok AI model rather than the traditional Wikipedia model of human authors and editors and displays «Fact-checked by Grok» label. However, users can submit suggestions when they spot potential inaccuracies.
