Head of the Kazakh Agency for Atomic Energy (AAE) Almassadam Satkaliyev said on the sidelines of Finnish President Alexander Stubb’s official visit to Astana that discussions on the export of Kazakhstan’s uranium to Finland’s nuclear power plants are underway, Interfax-Kazakhstan reported.

Satkaliyev emphasized that Kazakhstan had previously offered supplies and that Finnish counterparts expressed strong interest. He also noted that the visit provides a good opportunity for practical talks on the issue and the potential supply volumes.

According to the head of the AAE, Kazakhstan is interested in expanding its markets for nuclear fuel.

Earlier, British firm Yellow Cake, which specializes in uranium, issued around 23 million shares to institutional investors and raised $175 million. A portion of the proceeds will be allocated to purchase uranium from Kazakhstan.
