U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau gave a brief account of his visit to Almaty and shared his impressions of his stay in Kazakhstan.
The American diplomat called Almaty Kazakhstan’s «financial capital» and praised the hospitality of the locals.
«Almaty, Kazakhstan’s largest city and financial capital, is located in the foothills of the Zailiyskiy Alatau mountains. Just half an hour outside of town is the world-famous Shymbulak ski resort, where we enjoyed some amazing Kazakh hospitality. I’m starting to feel at home here with the golden eagle and my new Kazakh friends!» he wrote on X.

Landau, accompanied by U.S. Special Envoy to South and Central Asia Sergio Gor, arrived in Almaty on Oct. 28.
According to Kazakhstan’s President’s Executive Office, several meetings are planned as part of the visit, where prospects for U.S.-Kazakh relations, along with issues on the international and regional agendas, will be discussed.
During a working visit to New York in late September, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held several important meetings with American business leaders and politicians.
He met with ministers and heads of major companies, including Chevron, Blackstone, Meta, Amazon and Wabtec. Later, Tokayev held a meeting with his American counterpart, U.S. President Donald Trump.
In turn, Trump congratulated Tokayev on signing a major contract for the purchase of railroad equipment, worth around $4.2 billion.
