A couple from Rotorua, New Zealand — Sharik and Jessica Burgess-Stride — got an unexpected surprise during their wedding celebration on the Hobbiton Movie Set. Actor Elijah Wood, who played Frodo Baggins in «The Lord of the Rings» trilogy, unexpectedly showed up at the ceremony.
According to the newlyweds, the day had been rainy, but the skies cleared for exactly half an hour, just long enough for them to hold their ceremony. As the couple finished signing their marriage documents, Wood walked down the aisle to congratulate them in person.
The groom said they simply couldn’t believe their eyes. It was, he added, a true fairytale moment.
The Hobbiton Movie Set, located in the village of Matamata, is a popular destination for tourists and locals. It regularly hosts weddings inspired by Peter Jackson’s famous trilogy, as well as tours featuring hobbit houses and the Green Dragon pub.
Reportedly, this was the first time an actor from «The Lord of the Rings» films had made a surprise appearance at a wedding on the iconic set.
