Iran is reportedly preparing to lift its ban on Telegram for the first time in nearly eight years.
Authorities have reportedly set conditions for the move: the messaging app must remove what they deem «dangerous content» and ensure that user data does not fall into the hands of foreign intelligence agencies.
Iran blocked Telegram in December 2017, and a few months later, an Iranian court upheld the ban, citing national security concerns.
Notably, Telegram founder Pavel Durov said at the time that the service was blocked after the company refused to shut down channels used by peaceful protesters.
If the ban is lifted, millions of Iranians may once again be able to use the app as a primary means of communication for the first time in years.
