Italian tennis player Lorenzo Musetti (World No. 9) defeated Australian Alex de Minaur (7) and complicated the situation in the Jimmy Connors Group at the 2025 Nitto ATP Finals.
Musetti has now beaten de Minaur in three of their four head-to-head meetings. The Australian could have improved the statistics, being the less fatigued player. De Minaur had a week’s rest before Turin, whereas Musetti had to fight for a spot in the tournament in Athens.
But in reality, it was Musetti who looked more energetic and played flawlessly in the crucial moments. In the first set, the Italian made a break at 5-5 and again at 4-5 in the third set, when de Minaur was serving for the match. The evenly matched opponents played for a total of two hours and 43 minutes, during which both players won 100 points.
This is Musetti’s first victory, in his debut appearance at the ATP Finals. De Minaur, who has already played in such tournaments, has yet to record a win.

Carlos Alcaraz also needed three sets to beat Taylor Fritz. The World No. 1 lost the first-set tiebreak to the American but later turned the tide of the match. However, following Musetti’s victory, it became clear that all the players in the group still have a chance to advance to the semifinals. In the final round of the group stage, Alcaraz will take on the Italian tomorrow, while Fritz will face de Minaur.
