Italian player Jannik Sinner defeated German Alexander Zverev (6-4, 6-3) and secured the Bjorn Borg Group win ahead of schedule at the 2025 Nitto ATP Finals. The World No. 2 is advancing toward World No. 1. The upcoming match between Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, who is leading the Jimmy Connors Group, is the most anticipated event of the tournament in Turin.

It is a Spanish-Italian rivalry, both direct and indirect, that will determine the leader of the world rankings at the end of the 2025 season. To return to the top, Sinner needs to win three more matches in Turin — against Ben Shelton, in the semifinals, and in the final. The Italian also needs Alcaraz to lose all of his remaining matches, starting with tonight’s encounter against Lorenzo Musetti.

Bjorn Borg Group

Alexander Zverev (Germany, 3) vs. Ben Shelton (U.S., 5): 6-3, 7-6 (7-6)

Jannik Sinner (Italy, 2) vs. Felix Auger-Aliassime (Canada, 8): 7-5, 6-1

Jannik Sinner (Italy, 2) vs. Alexander Zverev (Germany, 3): 6-4, 6-3

Felix Auger-Aliassime (Canada, 8) vs. Ben Shelton (U.S., 5): 4-6, 7-6 (9-7), 7-5

Sinner, on his part, hasn’t lost a set. After defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime, he overcame World No. 3 Zverev 6-4, 6-3. In one hour and 36 minutes, Sinner hit 12 aces (without any double faults) and converted two of four break points. Zverev hit seven aces, also without a single double fault, but failed to convert any of his seven break points.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstani player Alexander Bublik (11) is present at the tournament in Turin as the first alternate and will play if any of the main players withdraw.

John McEnroe Group

Harri Heliovaara (Finland)/Henry Patten (U.K., 2) vs. Christian Harrison/Evan King (U.S., 8): 6-4, 6-4

Joe Salisbury/Neal Skupski (U.K., 5) vs. Marcelo Arévalo (El Salvador)/Mate Pavić (Croatia, 4): 6-3, 7-5

Joe Salisbury/Neal Skupski (U.K., 5) vs. Harri Heliovaara (Finland)/Henry Patten (U.K., 2): 7-6 (9-7), 3-6, 10-7

Marcelo Arévalo (El Salvador)/Mate Pavić (Croatia, 4) vs. Christian Harrison/Evan King (U.S., 8): 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (2-7), 13-11

Both doubles matches on Nov. 12 were decided by super tiebreaks. Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski defeated the second-seeded pair of Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten to qualify for the semifinals. Christian Harrison and Evan King lost their play-off chances after suffering two defeats.

This is the 56th edition of the ATP Finals and marks the fifth time the event has been held in Turin, Italy. The current champion, Jannik Sinner, defeated Taylor Fritz (6-4, 6-4) in last year’s final, also hosted in Turin.

The total prize money for the 2025 Nitto ATP Finals is a record-breaking $15.5 million. The participation fee for singles is $331,000; each victory in the group stage brings $396,000; a semifinal win earns $1.18 million; and winning the final brings $2.3 million. Thus, an undefeated singles champion will earn $5.07 million.

In doubles, an undefeated pair can earn $959,000.
