Vietnamese company eyes electric taxi launch in Kazakhstan

Vietnamese VinGroup is considering launching its EV taxi service, Xanh SM, in Kazakhstan. The company plans to establish a representative office in Almaty, which will work with the CIS region, Kazakh Invest reported.

Kazakh Invest representatives held talks with the VinGroup SNG’s delegation, which included representatives of the group’s subsidiary GSM (Green and Smart Mobility). A Vietnamese company is considering opening a GSM regional office in Almaty to serve the CIS.

GSM, operating under the Xanh SM brand, is one of the largest taxi services in Vietnam, offering only electric cars produced at the VinFast plants of VinGroup. It serves more than 12 million customers and runs around 100,000 electric cars.

VinGroup also plans to launch an electric taxi service served by the VinFast vehicles and establish charging stations, as well as localize its service and production facilities.

Furthermore, the company is interested in participating in education, medical and development projects, as well as smart city infrastructure development.

«The development of electric transport and charging infrastructure is one of the key priorities of Kazakhstan’s environmental modernization. We welcome VinGroup’s interest in technology localization and are ready to facilitate all aspects of the project’s launch,» Madiyar Sultanbek, deputy chairman of Kazakh Invest, said.

VinGroup conglomerate unites companies operating in real estate construction, retail trade and various services, ranging from healthcare to hospitality. In Vietnam, the company owns amusement parks, an automobile factory and more than 1,000 shops.
