Huawei has released a video showcasing a new feature for its flagship Mate 80 series smartphones.

The new Outdoor Mode is designed to let the device run for up to two weeks without recharging.

While the company has not yet detailed how the technology works, Outdoor Mode is believed to conserve power by disabling most functions, lowering screen brightness and switching to a simplified interface.

Similar modes exist on other smartphones, but the promised two-week battery life makes Huawei’s approach particularly notable.

The Mate 80 series includes four models — the Mate 80, Mate 80 Pro, Mate 80 Pro Max and Mate 80 RS — all powered by the new Kirin 9030 chipset and featuring screen sizes from 6.75 to 6.89 inches.

A key addition across the lineup is a built-in magnetic ring compatible with MagSafe accessories, including wireless chargers, making the devices more convenient for outdoor and active use.

The new phones are expected to have battery capacities of at least 6,000 mAh, significantly higher than the 4,500 to 5,000 mAh batteries typical in other smartphones.
