Elton John is set to appear in Brazil on Sept. 7, after Rock in Rio president Roberto Medina said the British superstar would help usher in a new chapter for the festival when he performs there next year.
John said he agreed to the booking immediately, explaining that he had not been able to include South America on his farewell tour. He noted that Brazilian fans have always meant a great deal to him and that the surge of energy he gets from major one-off shows has been unmatched since he stepped back from touring. He added that he is eager to return to Brazil next summer.

Rock in Rio, a biennial multi-day festival staged at the City of Rock in Rio de Janeiro, has expanded over the years to host editions in Lisbon, Madrid, and Las Vegas. The festival returned to its original home in 2011 with a refreshed lineup.
Notably, it remains one of the world’s largest music events, drawing 1.38 million people to its first edition, about 700,000 to its second and fourth, and roughly 1.2 million to its third.
