Hong Kong braces for Central Asian cuisine. The city’s first nomadic cuisine restaurant is scheduled to open in December in SoHo — the dining and entertainment district.

The restaurant, called Yurt, is being established by a team founded by members from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, and the flavors of their homelands will form the foundation of the menu. The main dish will be beshbarmak with horse meat.

The comment section has united people from around the world, most of them expressing enthusiasm, while users admitted they were curious to try horse meat.

The restaurant will operate in a regular format — with visitors choosing meals from the menu — and will also offer tasting sets.

Notably, Yurt will be completely Halal, which is a rare feature for Hong Kong.

«This commitment is fundamental to the restaurant’s identity, ensuring cultural authenticity while allowing the nuanced tea flavors and essential herbs of Central Asian drinking culture to remain the uncompromising focus,» the team stated.

In August, Qymyz Bar, a spot dedicated to kumys (or kymyz) — the traditional Central Asian drink made from fermented mare’s milk — opened in Almaty, offering 20 different varieties of kumys and a drink sommelier.
