The last weekend of November became a true celebration for dog owners in China, as several movie theaters across different cities held special screenings of «Zootopia 2,» allowing audiences to attend with their pets. Adorable photos from the events quickly went viral on social media, sparking a wave of affection nationwide.

In Shanghai, for example, the Longhua Perfect World Cinema prepared in advance by adapting its theater for the pet-friendly format. Staff created designated areas and arranged seating to avoid conflicts between dogs. The cinema also provided diapers, wipes and cleaning pads at each seat, while owners were required to clean up after their pets once the screening ended.

Similar events took place in other Chinese cities. Nanjing’s CGV Cinema hosted a comparable screening, requiring small dogs to wear diapers. Attendees described the atmosphere as «warm experience and super healing.»

Love for Zootopia has long been strong in China. The first film scored 9.3 on the rating platform Douban and became one of the most successful foreign animated releases in the country. With the release of the sequel, theaters were confident that both fans and their four-legged companions would show up for the premiere.

The sequel has already become a new success for the global animation industry, earning $556 million at the box office during its opening weekend and proving that fans’ nine-year wait was well worth it.
