
At about 12:45 p.m. on Dec. 4, an estimated magnitude-4.6 earthquake struck the Almaty area. Residents received immediate mobile alerts warning them of the quake.
Stronger tremors were reported by people in high-rise buildings, while many who were outdoors said they did not feel the shaking. No injuries or damage were reported.
The tremors were also felt in southern Kazakhstan and in Kyrgyzstan.
