Mikhail Shaidorov places sixth at Grand Prix Final in Japan

Last weekend, the 2025 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in Nagoya, Japan concluded. Kazakhstani figure skater Mikhail Shaidorov ranked sixth, finishing last.

The athlete was sixth after the short program, and the gap between him and the leaders remained too large, leaving him in sixth place overall. The judges awarded Shaidorov 170.89 points in the free skate, bringing his total to 242.19 points.

American Ilia Malinin celebrated his third consecutive victory at the ISU Grand Prix Final, scoring 332.29 points. After completing the short program, he trailed the leader by 14 points. The two-time world champion became the first figure skater in history to execute seven quads, breaking his own record for points scored in the free skate — 238.24.

Japanese athlete Yuma Kagiyama finished second with 302.41 points, while Shun Sato ranked third with 292.08 points. Italian Daniel Grassl placed fourth with 288.72 points and French Adam Siao Him Fa was fifth with 258.64 points.

Context

The 2025–26 ISU Grand Prix Final took place in Nagoya, Japan, from Dec. 4 to 7. A total of four sets of medals were awarded: in men’s and women’s singles, pairs, and ice dance.

Shaidorov qualified for the Grand Prix Final in fifth place, having finished third at the Grand Prix in China and second at the event in the U.S.

Malinin won last year’s Grand Prix Final, with Kagiyama and Sato finishing second and third, respectively. Shaidorov competed as a substitute for the injured Siao Him Fa and placed fifth.
