Any correspondence involving the purchase of goods or services — including WhatsApp messages — will now be considered part of a legally binding contract in Kazakhstan, according to MP Murat Abenov. He announced the change during a live broadcast on the parliament’s official Instagram page.

«Any conversation or message is part of the contract»

«We are now stipulating that any conversation we have — any video recording, any WhatsApp correspondence, any advertisement — is an integral part of the contract,» Abenov said. «If we corresponded, if I sent the money through Kaspi, if you promised me a three-year warranty, all of this becomes part of the contract. If it isn’t fulfilled, the seller cannot claim we didn’t have a contract — we have it in our correspondence.»

Citizens can take disputes to court

Abenov added that if the terms of such a contract are not met, the buyer has the right to take the matter to court.
