FC Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski has held talks over a potential transfer to Major League Soccer (MLS) side Chicago Fire FC, according to the BBC. The 37-year-old Polish footballer is open to a move, and his high salary is not expected to be an obstacle.

Lewandowski’s contract with the Catalan club runs until the summer of 2026. FC Barcelona’s management is not rushing to extend the agreement.

According to the source, the forward is also considering other options for continuing his career. Lewandowski has not ruled out staying with Barcelona for one more season, even in a reserve role with reduced playing time.

Saudi Arabian clubs are also monitoring the Polish player’s future and are ready to offer favorable conditions. However, a transfer to Chicago Fire is considered highly probable.

The American club’s management has included Lewandowski on its so-called «Discovery List,» meaning no other MLS club can sign him without paying compensation to Chicago Fire.

Inter Miami is also interested in Lewandowski, but the club where Lionel Messi plays is not permitted to negotiate with him while the Polish striker is on Chicago’s «Discovery List.» Therefore, Chicago Fire is in a favorable position if the forward decides to continue his career in MLS. This potential transfer may also be influenced by the fact that Chicago is home to the largest Polish community in the United States.

Lewandowski’s career

Lewandowski joined FC Barcelona in the summer of 2022. With the Catalan club, he won La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup twice (2023, 2025). He also won the Spanish Cup in 2025.

He made his debut for the Poland national team in September 2008. Over 163 appearances, Lewandowski scored 88 goals and provided 38 assists.
