Kylian Mbappe nears Cristiano Ronaldo’s club goal record

On Dec. 17, Real Madrid’s forward Kylian Mbappe scored a brace against Talavera of Spanish third-tier league Primera Federación in the Copa del Rey. Therefore, Frenchman closely approached to Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for the most goals within a calendar year for the club, Sport Illustrated reported.

Goals in this match became 57th and 58th for Mbappe in 2025 for Real Madrid. This is the second best efficiency result in the Meringues over a calendar year. Ronaldo is the only one who scored more. In 2013, Portuguese put 59 goals on his record.  

To beat Ronaldo’s record, Mbappe will have one match against Sevilla at La Liga on Dec. 20.

Mbappe’s career

Mbappe won the Ligue 1 title six times with PSG and once with Monaco. With PSG, he also lifted the French Cup four times and the Trophée des Champions three times. As a Real Madrid player, he won the UEFA Super Cup in 2024. This season, he has scored 28 goals and provided five assists in 23 matches.

Mbappe made his debut for the France’s national team in March 2017 at the age of 18. He is a 2018 FIFA World Cup winner, a 2022 World Cup runner-up and a 2021 UEFA Nations League winner. In 94 appearances for France, he has contributed 95 goal actions (55 goals and 40 assists).
