Winter brings not only New Year’s cheer but also a familiar inconvenience: bulky clothing that is hard to keep clean. Kursiv LifeStyle looks at a popular online method for preventing stains on winter jackets.

During the colder months, many women struggle with makeup stains on jacket collars, especially from foundation and lipstick. High collars and hoods rub against the face, leaving visible marks on both light- and dark-colored outerwear. Online, the most common advice is to remove the stains with micellar water or rubbing alcohol.

Many users say, however, that it can take at least 30 minutes of scrubbing to remove the marks — and the process must be repeated frequently.

New hack for makeup-stained jackets

A new workaround, focused on preventing stains rather than removing them, has recently gone viral on social media. The method involves spraying makeup setting spray onto a clean jacket collar and drying it with a hair dryer. For best results, users recommend applying the fixative to the face as well.

In one video testing the hack, the creator rubbed the jacket collar directly against her face. The collar remained clean.

Some users noted that the idea is not entirely new, recalling that their mothers once used ordinary hairspray for the same purpose, long before modern makeup fixatives became widely available. Others pointed to «makeup-proof» collar stickers now sold on online marketplaces.
