A group calling itself Anna’s Archive claims it has copied a large portion of Spotify’s music catalog and compiled what it describes as the largest open music database, totaling about 86 million songs.

The group says the archive contains nearly 300 terabytes of data.

Scope of the collection

According to the group, the archive includes music from more than 15 million artists and about 58 million albums. Members say they plan to release the tracks gradually for public access, beginning with the most popular titles.

Anna’s Archive estimates that the 86 million tracks account for about 99.6% of all streams on Spotify. However, the group acknowledged that the collection represents only slightly more than one-third of Spotify’s total catalog, meaning data collection is ongoing.

Claims of cultural preservation

The group says its mission is to preserve human knowledge and culture beyond what is stored in text-based formats.

It also criticized existing music archives, arguing that they are biased toward popular artists and rely on excessively large file sizes. Anna’s Archive claims its project avoids those shortcomings.

Largest public music database outside streaming

Anna’s Archive says it has created the largest publicly accessible music database available outside commercial streaming platforms.
