Residents of the Kostanay region, in northern Kazakhstan, helped make the dream of a young fan of Dimash Qudaibergen from Mexico come true. Kursiv LifeStyle covers how a Kazakh dombra — a two-stringed plucked musical instrument central to Kazakhstan’s folk music — set off on a 11,000-kilometer journey.

Writer Abylai Maudan said that following the release of his book Daididau, the mother of a teenager from Mexico reached out to him. The young fan of Dimash was inspired by the works of the Kazakh singer and wanted to learn to play the dombra.

The author managed to find sponsors through a local culture department. The instrument was purchased in Rudny, in the Kostanay region, and prepared for shipping abroad. According to Nazgul Duissenova, the head of the Altyn Dombyra studio, the teenager will also receive video tutorials in English.

The instrument has been securely packed and sent to Mexico. The route will cover approximately 11,000 kilometers. The dombra is expected to arrive by the New Year holidays.

Separately, Qudaibergen received an Honorary Professor title at Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University.
