On Dec. 29, South Korea’s one of the largest restaurant franchise groups, Genesis BBQ, which specializes primarily in fried chicken, announced it had signed a master franchise agreement with Kazakhstan-based Restopark KZ LLP, Yonhap reported, citing the company’s press release.

The development marks the company’s entry into the Central Asian market, with further plans to expand to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. Under the agreement, the franchisee is authorized to open and operate outlets and to grant sub-franchise rights to other parties.

The franchise is reportedly expected to cover Almaty and other major cities in Kazakhstan.

Headquartered in Seoul, Genesis BBQ Group was founded in 1995 and operates more than 4,700 franchise outlets worldwide.

Separately, in early December, South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem shipped the first batch of high-speed trains to Uzbekistan, marking the country’s first export of domestically developed high-speed rolling stock.
