Rumors about a «Pretty Woman» sequel have surfaced online after fake posters supposedly promoting the film’s second part on Netflix appeared on the internet, the Daily Mail reported.

It later turned out to be fake, as there was no official announcement.

In «Pretty Woman,» the central story is a romance between the financial tycoon Edward Lewis and a prostitute, Vivienne. The couple meet each other when Lewis gets lost while driving through the city at night and asks Vivienne for directions. Later, he hires her to be his escort for business events and eventually falls in love with her.

The film starred Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, who were 40 and 22, respectively, at the time of filming. The significant age difference surprised many at the time, but it didn’t prevent the film from becoming a cult classic for several generations.

According to a source familiar with the matter, both Gere and Roberts have been surprised to learn that the film is still very popular with audiences. In 2019, Roberts acknowledged the film’s many controversial aspects, emphasizing that audiences still enjoy it. She also said that «Pretty Woman» would be difficult to make today.

Despite this, there are rumors that Disney is negotiating with Gere and Roberts, and if they reach an agreement, the studio will give the project the green light.

Interestingly, other actors were also considered for the role of Lewis, including Sean Connery, Al Pacino and Burt Reynolds. Al Pacino turned it down after the audition. So did Reynolds, who later regretted the decision, ironically calling it a mistake.

Earlier this year, Sony Pictures reported that it had begun work on a sequel to the popular romantic comedy «My Best Friend’s Wedding.» The screenplay has been written by Celine Song, author of «Past Lives» and «Materialists.»
