Actor Elijah Wood has weighed in on speculation that Frodo Baggins could appear in the upcoming film «The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.»

McKellen’s comments spark speculation

The rumors gained momentum after Ian McKellen, who has officially confirmed his return as Gandalf, made remarks at a fan event suggesting that characters named Frodo and Gandalf would be part of the film. McKellen declined to provide further details.

Following those comments, reporters asked Wood about the possibility of his involvement during a public appearance in New Orleans.

The wizard is to be trusted

Wood neither confirmed nor denied that he would reprise his role. Instead, he responded with humor, saying that the wizard is to be trusted — a clear nod to McKellen’s remarks.

Returning creative team

Wood said he is eagerly anticipating the film’s release and expressed enthusiasm that much of the creative team from the original «Lord of the Rings» trilogy is involved, including screenwriter and producer Philippa Boyens.

The actor also noted that Andy Serkis is directing the film, calling the move a natural choice. Serkis will both reprise his role as Gollum and make his feature directing debut within the franchise.
