Central Asia shivers while Kamchatka residents leap into massive snowdrifts

Arctic cold and blizzard conditions are forecast across much of Kazakhstan, while Russia’s Far East — particularly Kamchatka — is now buried under deep snow. Amid the heavy snowfall, people have begun jumping into snowdrifts directly from windows and rooftops. Videos of these scenes were shared by users on the social media platform Threads.

Emergency services have officially urged people not to attempt this. Beneath the soft-looking snow there may be fences, cars, exposed rebar — anything. A person can also become trapped up to the neck and be unable to escape without assistance. A snowdrift is not an airbag; it’s a gamble, and the prize is injury.
