According to the Eastern calendar, this year is the Year of the Horse in Kazakhstan. Coincidentally, residents of Almaty recently spotted a herd of horses roaming freely through the city streets. A video of the unusual sight quickly appeared on social media.
The video’s author on Threads said she encountered the horses at the intersection of Chaliapin and Beregovoi streets. According to her, the unaccompanied animals crossed the road on their own and headed toward Sain Street, an area known for heavy traffic.

The author, Symbat, said she noticed the herd during her morning walk. At first, she could hardly believe what she was seeing, but after taking a closer look, she realized that horses were indeed walking along the sidewalk, one after another.
Social media users actively discussed the incident. Some suggested that the horses may have been grazing without supervision, which is prohibited, and that their owners were relying on the animals to return on their own.
The local district police department is currently investigating the incident. Authorities are working to identify the owner of the animals, after which a procedural decision will be made.
