Chinese car makes its debut in the Gran Turismo video game series

Not long ago, Chinese cars raised various concerns, but today they are appearing on race circuits, including virtual ones, CarNewsChina reported. Notably, this isn’t a casual arcade title, but Gran Turismo 7, one of the world’s most respected racing simulators.
Why it matters
Gran Turismo isn’t just a video game but a cultural phenomenon. The series has been uniting automotive icons for decades, including Porsche, Ferrari, BMW and Mercedes-AMG. Now, this list features the first vehicle from the Chinese brand — the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra.
For a brand that, until recently, was associated with smartphones and devices, this step marks a powerful symbolic significance.
The model in the game
The most aggressive version of the Chinese electric sedan dropped into the game. The model represents a technology demonstration of Xiaomi’s capabilities in the automotive industry.
Key specs:
- Multi-motor electric drivetrain;
- Acceleration to 100 km/h in less than two seconds;
- Emphasis on maximum dynamics, not just comfort.
The model rolled out in the game on Jan. 29, 2026.
Xiaomi’s way to Gran Turismo
In the summer of 2025, Xiaomi officially announced the partnership with Polyphony Digital, a developer of Gran Turismo. At that time, the move looked like a curious experiment, but it turned out to be the full-fledged debut of a Chinese car in an iconic series.
Not a unique case already
In the fall, BYD, via its premium sub-brand Yangwang, announced the introduction of the Yangwang U9 Xtreme model in Gran Turismo 7. By that time, the model had already posted a record lap at the Nürburgring and recorded a top-speed run of roughly 500 km/h.
What this development means
Chinese cars are no longer just export goods. They are gradually becoming part of global automotive culture — through video games, simulators, and virtual tracks. And this form of recognition often says more about a brand’s status than any advertising campaign.
