The project of a new landmark in the Charyn Canyon system — a glass bridge over the Black Canyon — has been revealed.

The project was showcased at a meeting between Almaty Region Gov. Marat Sultangaziyev and construction companies, held to review investment projects for the region’s tourism development. The total value of the glass bridge project is estimated at approximately $3 million, with the facility expected to welcome between 400,000 and 600,000 tourists annually once fully operational.

Preparatory work is already underway. In 2024, the site was connected to the electric power grid. The site leveling for the construction of a parking lot and a pavilion has now been completed. Currently, the planning documentation is undergoing a state examination. The investor is expected to commence construction once it is approved.

The project timeline appears record-breaking, with construction scheduled for completion by the end of 2026. At the same time, the governor’s office did not emphasize the impact that large-scale construction and increased tourist numbers may have on the area’s environmental condition. It is worth noting that the Black Canyon is part of the Charyn State National Natural Park.

The Nomad City project was also showcased during the meeting. The movie set town is expected to welcome up to 150,000 visitors annually, while during the high season, it is planned to receive up to 2,000 tourists daily.
