Kazakhstan and Pakistan just signed $200 million in new deals

On Feb. 4, as part of Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s state visit to Pakistan, he and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended the Kazakhstan-Pakistan Business Forum, according to the Akorda press service.

Speaking at the forum, Tokayev thanked the Pakistani prime minister for initiating the event, calling his first state visit to Pakistan an important milestone in bilateral cooperation.

During the visit, the two countries signed a joint declaration elevating their partnership to a strategic level.

At the business forum, over 30 commercial agreements were signed, totaling about $200 million. The agreements are aimed at expanding cooperation in areas including finance, logistics, energy, digitalization, and infrastructure.

Tokayev noted that trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Pakistan nearly doubled last year. The goal now is to increase bilateral trade to $1 billion. He added that more than 200 companies with Pakistani capital are currently operating in Kazakhstan across sectors such as construction, agriculture, the food industry, and manufacturing.
