A video from Aktau, a city on the Caspian Sea in Kazakhstan, is going viral in a local segment of the internet — the white swans, considered one of the city’s symbols, have returned for winter.
The birds were spotted at a city promenade. Content creator Azamat Sarsenbayev posted a video of the bevy of noble birds. Hundreds of swans can be seen gathering in the quiet area near the promenade, swimming and sliding on the ice. Users in the comment section highlighted that it’s rare to encounter so many birds in the city.
They also noted that it’s strictly prohibited to feed the swans bread, since improper nutrition can cause bloating and harm their stomachs. It’s better to use special concentrated feed for birds or fruits and vegetables.
Swans usually fly to Aktau for wintering in December and stay through the cold months, from around December to February or March. They gather along the Caspian Sea coast, attracting the attention of both residents and tourists. Feeding the birds has become a good city tradition.
