Tesla has finally polished its electric truck Semi. The model was first presented in 2017, but large-scale production is only now starting. Meanwhile, the truck’s price has significantly increased. Elon Musk announced the full-fledged launch in 2026, and a dedicated page is now available on the company’s website.

Production in Nevada and a slow start

The electric trucks are produced at the facility in Nevada. However, since late 2022, only limited test deliveries had been made. The first vehicles were sent to PepsiCo for trial operations, while large-scale production was repeatedly delayed, pushing back the launch by multiple years.

Driving range up to 800 kilometers and fast charging

Tesla Semi will be offered with different driving ranges. The top option reaches around 500 miles (about 800 kilometers) on a single charge — an impressive figure for a heavy-duty truck.

On top of that, the company said it is possible to recover up to 60% of the driving range in about 30 minutes at Tesla’s Semi Chargers. The truck is equipped with three electric motors on the rear axles, which are expected to maintain strong pulling power even when fully loaded.

Efficiency and style

Semi is not just about specs. The truck has a futuristic design, with a streamlined cab and a central driver’s seat. It looks impressive and clearly stands out from the usual image of a classic truck.

As a result, Tesla focuses on reducing operating and maintenance costs and improving environmental friendliness. However, how quickly the freight market will shift to electric vehicles remains unclear.

Significant price increase

One key market consideration is Tesla Semi’s price increase. At the 2017 announcement, the price was reported to be between $150,000 and $180,000. By the start of mass production, the reported price of the standard version reached around $250,000.
