An unusual dating trend is gaining popularity among young people in China, with individuals recommending their former partners to others as if they were job candidates, according to the South China Morning Post.

The idea emerged amid growing frustration with dating apps and a desire to find a «vetted» partner. Users say the approach helps them avoid disappointment and scams. Many young Chinese report that they no longer trust dating apps and fear encountering manipulators or people who misrepresent themselves.

On social media, users have begun posting «profiles» of their exes that list age, height, workplace and personality traits. Some resemble formal résumés, complete with strengths and weaknesses.

The trend is often traced to a viral post in which a Chinese woman asked friends to recommend a good partner. In the comments, people began offering their exes — and even current partners — in large numbers, joking that «if we break up, I’ll give you his contact info.» Some users say they have actually formed relationships through these recommendations.

The phenomenon spread quickly, with users publishing detailed guides about their exes, including descriptions of behavior and daily habits. Critics, however, argue that the trend reflects a consumerist attitude toward relationships.
