Currently, one person in Kazakhstan is named Constitution, and three people are named Quryltai (Kurultai). Against the backdrop of new constitutional reforms, Kursiv.media set out to determine whether any citizens bear unusual names now associated with the adoption of the new constitution.

According to data from the Bureau of National Statistics, the following entries were recorded for the requested names:

Constitution

Only one person in the country has this name. The individual is in the 65-and-older age group and lives in Astana. Media reports from 2021 indicated that Constitution is a woman living in the Zhambyl region of southern Kazakhstan.

Kurultai or Quryltai

Translated from Kazakh as «extraordinary meeting, political and military council» or a body of popular representation, this name is held by three Kazakhstani citizens. One lives in the Karaganda region (age 30-34). The other two live in the East Kazakhstan region: one is 50-54, and the other is 55-59. Gender is not specified in the registry. While the name may sound feminine, it is possible that Kazakh men also bear it.

Novella

Derived from the Italian word for «short story,» and also used as a legal term meaning a legislative innovation or amendment, Novella is recorded for five people in Kazakhstan, presumed to be women. Their ages and places of residence are as follows:

  • One person under age 15 in the Kostanay region.
  • One person aged 55-59 in the Akmola region.
  • Two people aged 50-54, one in the Pavlodar region and one in Astana.
  • One person aged 65 or older in Almaty.

No statistical information was found in the database for citizens of Kazakhstan with the names Reform or Referendum.
