Sony Pictures is developing a new feature installment of «Charlie’s Angels.» The project is currently in the early stages of development, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The designated screenwriter is reportedly Pete Chiarelli, known for «The Proposal» starring Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock, as well as «Crazy Rich Asians.» The producer has not yet been announced, though it could be Drew Barrymore, who worked on the early-2000s films. However, there has been no official confirmation.
Barrymore starred alongside Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu in the 2000 feature film «Charlie’s Angels.» Based on the 1970s television series of the same name, which followed three private investigators working for the unseen millionaire Charlie, the film was a hit. It grossed more than $264 million worldwide against a budget of $93 million. Three years later, the sequel «Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle» was released, earning $259.2 million at the box office.
Afterward, there were several attempts to reboot the franchise. The most recent film, released in 2019 and starring Kristen Stewart, underperformed at the box office.
Previously, Kursiv LifeStyle reported on another potential franchise revival: Universal Pictures is set to bring «The Mummy» back with the original cast.
