On March 1, a complete ban on vapes and electronic cigarettes came into effect in Uzbekistan. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the law last November, Sputnik Uzbekistan reported.

Now it is not only prohibited to vape but also to produce, possess, sell, import and export electronic cigarettes and e-liquids. Violations are subject to criminal liability. Depending on the situation, the sanction may be a large fine, corrective labor, restriction of liberty or imprisonment for up to five years.

Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Justice noted that individuals who voluntarily turn in prohibited devices and report the violation may be exempt from liability.

Tourists should keep the new rules in mind. When planning a trip to Tashkent, Samarkand, or other cities in Uzbekistan, do not bring vapes or e-liquids. Even possession may trigger serious difficulties and fines.

The full ban on the circulation of vapes has also been in effect in Kazakhstan since June 20, 2024. Individuals will not be held liable for vaping, but sales, distribution and import of vapes are considered a criminal offense.
