According to Variety, the new «Scream» posted the strongest opening weekend for the franchise since the original film’s 1996 debut. The movie grossed $64.1 million domestically and $33.1 million internationally in its first weekend, for a global total of nearly $100 million.
The previous franchise record was set by “Scream 6,” which earned $44.4 million in its domestic opening weekend.
Premium formats boost results
Premium large-format screenings played a key role in the film’s performance. IMAX, ScreenX and other premium screens accounted for 40% of the worldwide box office. This marks the first time a «Scream» film has been released in IMAX.
In Kazakhstan, premium large-format screens remain limited. Such auditoriums are primarily available in major shopping centers in Almaty and Astana.
The seventh installment is the third entry in the franchise since its high-profile reboot in 2022. Several key cast members did not return for the latest film following internal disputes related to the production.
