“Scream 7” has set a franchise record at the box office. Kursiv LifeStyle takes a look at how much the new installment of the iconic slasher has grossed.

According to Paramount, the global box office has reached $176.9 million, allowing the latest movie to surpass the franchise’s previous record holders. “Scream” (1996) generated $173 million and “Scream 2” (1997) earned $172 million, excluding inflation.

Of the total, $106.5 million came from domestic distribution in the U.S., with $70.4 million earned internationally. According to the online ticketing platform Freedom Ticketon, the movie earned over 250 million tenge (roughly $510,000) in Kazakhstan during its two-week run.

Analysts at Variety attribute the success to several factors, the main one being the return of actress Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott. She had skipped the previous installment due to a pay dispute.

Earlier, “Scream 7” set the franchise’s best opening — over its first weekend, the movie earned $64.1 million in the U.S. and $33.1 million overseas, totaling almost $100 million. The previous record holder was “Scream VI”, with $44.4 million in domestic distribution.

The budget is around $45 million, making the new “Scream” installment pay off more than once.
