Work on launching the long-anticipated light rail transit (LRT) line in Astana continue to attract attention from both capital residents and social media users. Kursiv LifeStyle takes a look at how a video of rolling stock turned into a source of jokes about barge haulers and Ancient Egypt.
A video showing several workers in uniform pulling two LRT cars spread across social media. The footage shows cars being moved by hand using a rope. It is unclear exactly why the train had to be pulled in this way.

As of the time of publication, the video had already spread across local communities, while the original video garnered around 100,000 views.
Users jokingly compared the process to building Egyptian pyramids or to a widely recognized 19th-century Russian painting, «Barge Haulers on the Volga» by Ilya Repin.

Notably, this is not the first time workers in Astana have been compared to works of art. In January, mall cleanup resembled an Egyptian fresco to residents.
The launch of the first light rail transit (LRT) line in Astana, Kazakhstan’s capital, is expected this spring, according to Mayor Zhenis Kassymbek.
