Traffic police in Kyzylorda, in southern Kazakhstan, helped a tourist from Malaysia traveling across the country in a legendary Volkswagen Transporter T1 van. The «hippie bus» of the 1950s and 1960s sparked no less interest than the traveler’s mission, Polisia.kz reported.
Police in touch
After arriving in Kyzylorda from Almaty, the foreigner got a little lost in the city. Patrol officer Murat Shyngyskhan came to help. Speaking fluent English, he directed the visitor and pointed out the needed locations.
The meeting turned out to be more than a mere formality, as the officer helped the owner of a vintage van map out a route for his onward journey toward Russia and Georgia.
Environmental mission on a classic van
The man is traveling as part of an environmental campaign. Despite the age of the van, the tourist has set himself the goal of promoting nature protection. He is set to stop in Kyzylorda to plant trees.
The vehicle choice adds flair to the campaign, since T1s in good condition are rare on Kazakhstan’s roads.
After completing its «green» mission in Kyzylorda, the German vintage car will continue its journey along an international route, promoting Kazakhstan’s image as a welcoming destination for road travelers.
